1st ENGIE–Nebrija Chair Awards for the Best Bachelor’s and Master’s Theses

Legal bases

The ENGIE–Nebrija Chair of Energy and Just Transition has announced the awardees of the first edition of the Awards for the Best Bachelor’s Thesis (TFG) and Master’s Thesis (TFM), with the aim of recognizing outstanding university research in the fields of business and sustainability.

The submitted works had to contribute to the development of responsible, innovative business models aligned with the principles of economic, social, and environmental sustainability. The jury especially valued research focused on topics such as circular economy, corporate social responsibility, sustainable finance, innovation in business models, or the impact of climate change on the business sector, among other approaches that promote the integration of sustainability in organizational management.

Resolution:

In total, 11 works from 9 different universities were evaluated. The awardees in this first edition were:

  • Laura García Vives (Universitat Pompeu Fabra)
    – Best Bachelor’s Thesis “The UN’s Sustainable Development Goal 12 in the United States. The true cost of fast fashion”
  • Paz Costantini (Universidad Politécnica de Madrid)
    – Best Master’s Thesis “Analysis of Circular Economy Practices in the Hotel and Restaurant Industry”

3rd Edition of the Telefónica–Nebrija “Tourism Intelligence” Awards for the Best Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Doctoral Theses

In this edition, the jury decided to grant the award for the best Doctoral Thesis to Juan Vicente Calle, for his work titled: “World Heritage Cities as Smart Tourist Destinations: A case study of the World Heritage Cities Group and the city of Segovia”.

5th Edition of the Santander–Nebrija Awards for the Best Bachelor’s and Master’s Theses

Antonio de Nebrija University and Banco Santander have announced the fifth edition of the awards for the best Bachelor’s and Master’s theses, in line with the research areas of the chairs.

2023–2024 Awards Resolution

The Chairs Department of Antonio de Nebrija University has announced the awardees of the Awards for the Best Bachelor’s and Master’s Theses in the different research lines promoted by the chairs. These awards seek to recognize students who have stood out for the excellence of their work in specialized research areas linked to the Chairs of Antonio de Nebrija University.

Within the framework of the Nebrija–Santander Chairs Awards, a panel of experts evaluated 33 submissions from 22 Spanish universities and 11 foreign universities. The distinguished works in each category, each awarded €1,234.56 gross, are as follows:

  • The Nebrija–Santander Global Chair of Spanish as a Language for Migrants and Refugees awards its Prize to Lisbeth Pastora Giménez for her Master’s thesis titled “Factors that affect the maintenance of a minority language within the family: the case of Spanish as a heritage language in Italy”, defended at Antonio de Nebrija University.
  • The Nebrija–Santander Global Chair in Migration and Human Rights awards its Prize to Marlene Lucía López Vega for her Master’s thesis titled “The Arauca River: Weaver of the transnational social space of the Great Plains”, defended at Pontificia Universidad Javeriana in Bogotá, Colombia.
  • The Nebrija–Santander Global Chair in Energy Recovery in Surface Transport awards its Prize to Asier Divassón Jaureguibarria for his Master’s thesis titled “Analysis of Stochastic Techniques to Improve Flexibility in Medium Voltage Distribution Systems using Energy Storage Systems on congestion case scenarios”, defended at the University of the Basque Country.
  • The Nebrija–Santander Global Chair in Business Internationalization awards its Prize to Raúl Peinado Fernández for his Bachelor’s thesis titled “Construction of an interactive visualization tool for the analysis of Spain’s external openness and its exposure to the conflict between Russia and Ukraine”, defended at the Autonomous University of Madrid.

Call guidelines

The call is aimed at works presented in various academic disciplines related to the topics of the research chairs, covering business internationalization, migration and human rights, teaching and acquisition of Spanish by migrants and refugees, and energy recovery in transport.

Antonio de Nebrija University and Banco Santander are announcing the 4th edition of the Awards for the best Bachelor’s and Master’s theses presented in any academic discipline aligned with the thematic lines of the chairs.

2022–2023 Call Awards Resolution

The Chairs Department of Antonio de Nebrija University decided on July 20, 2023 the Nebrija–Santander Awards for Bachelor’s and Master’s Theses in the lines of the chairs, aimed at promoting knowledge by students who have stood out for their quality work in the specialized research lines carried out by the University’s chairs.

The expert juries evaluated the submissions, which totaled 44. The scope of the research was broad, with proposals from 36 Spanish universities (Universidad Pública de Navarra, Universidad de Granada, Universidad de Sevilla, Universidad de Alcalá, Universidad de Zaragoza, Universidad Pontificia Comillas, Universidad Antonio de Nebrija, Universidad de Barcelona, Universidad de Murcia, Universidad Católica de Valencia, Universidad Internacional de Valencia, Universidad de Cádiz, Universidad San Jorge, Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, Universidad de Deusto and Universidad Pontificia Comillas) and 8 foreign universities (Universidad Estatal del Sur de Manabí in Ecuador, Universidad Nacional de la Plata in Argentina, Universidad Nacional de San Martín in Argentina, Universidad de Medellín in Colombia, Universidad Nacional del Litoral in Argentina, Universidad de Chile, Universidad Católica de Temuco in Colombia, Universidad del Cauca in Colombia).

The award-winning works in each category, each with a prize of €1,234.56 gross, are detailed below:

  • The Nebrija–Santander Global Chair of Spanish as a Language for Migrants and Refugees awards its Prize to Alfonso Carnicero Izquierdo for his Master’s thesis titled “CLIL Workshop on gender equality for refugees”, defended at Antonio de Nebrija University.
  • The Nebrija–Santander Global Chair in Risk and Conflict Management awards its Prize to Beatriz Axelle Waucquez Jiménez for her Master’s thesis titled “The repatriation of Daesh’s children: analysis and solutions based on cases H.F. and M.F. v. France and J.D. and A.D. v. France”, defended at the International University of Valencia.
  • The Nebrija–Santander Global Chair in Energy Recovery in Surface Transport awards its Prize to Daniel Clavijo Gil for his Bachelor’s thesis titled “x CYBER-PHYSICAL SYSTEMS for the COMPONENTS of NMLS1”, defended at Antonio de Nebrija University.
  • The committee of the Nebrija–Santander Global Chair in Business Internationalization has declared the prize void.

Requirements

The works submitted must meet the following requirements:

  • They must have been prepared and defended by students from any university, public or private, national or foreign.
  • They must have been submitted and defended from January 2022 to December 2022, both months inclusive.
  • They may be submitted in Spanish or English.
  • The grade obtained must have been the following:
    • Bachelor’s thesis: outstanding.
    • Master’s thesis: outstanding.

Topics

  • Prize for the best Bachelor’s or Master’s thesis in Business Internationalization: works will be awarded that, from any scientific discipline, delve into the knowledge of the external action and performance of companies, identifying the most relevant patterns and aspects of their internationalization process.
  • Prize for the best Bachelor’s or Master’s thesis in Conflict Management and Resolution: works will be awarded that deepen knowledge, management, prevention, and resolution of risks and conflicts of various kinds, especially those related to Law, Psychology, International Relations, and Security.
  • Prize for the best Bachelor’s or Master’s thesis in Teaching Spanish as a Language for Migrants and Refugees: research works will be awarded that study the acquisition, learning, teaching, and assessment of Spanish as a language of migration. Research aimed at improving linguistic and social care for migrants and refugees from the host society will also be valued.
  • Prize for the best Bachelor’s or Master’s thesis in Energy Recovery in Transport: research will be awarded on the efficient and responsible use of energy in surface transport, especially those dedicated to developing energy recovery technologies in motor vehicles; promoting a more efficient use of energy in surface transport; measuring the impact of these technologies on the development of sustainable mobility and/or raising awareness about the efficient and responsible use of energy.

The documentation to be provided is as follows:

  • A PDF copy of the Bachelor’s or Master’s thesis submitted to the call with the personal data (first and last name) of the author of the work and the supervisor.
  • A PDF copy of the anonymous thesis, i.e., without the name of the person who wrote it or the supervisor.
  • Copy of the Curriculum Vitae.
  • Copy of proof of the evaluation/grade obtained.
  • Annex I complete.
  • A 1,000-word summary with the objectives, results, and conclusions of the work.

For application management purposes, those applications that are missing any of the documents mentioned in this section will not be considered.

2021–2022 Call Awards Resolution

The main objective of the Telefónica Nebrija Chair is to promote projects and activities that enable the incorporation of technologies and innovations aimed at digitizing processes and creating products and services in the tourism sector, thereby contributing to a more innovative, intelligent, and sustainable management of tourism.

A specialized jury decided on September 26, 2022 the Telefónica–Nebrija Awards for the best Bachelor’s and Master’s theses on Tourism Intelligence, which recognize students who have stood out for their excellent work in this specialized line of research.

After evaluating the submissions, from various national universities (Complutense University of Madrid, University of Girona, and University of Oviedo) and international universities (Modul University Vienna, Austria), the following awards are granted:

  • ONE First Prize, €1,250 gross, to Aitziber Pousa Unanue for her Master’s thesis titled "From marketing to management: conceptualizing a strategic destination management scorecard (SDMSC)" defended at Modul University Vienna (Austria).
  • ONE Second Prize, €750 gross, to Sara García Portela for her Bachelor’s thesis “The Metaverse and its influence on the future of the Tourism Sector” defended at the Complutense University of Madrid.

Antonio de Nebrija University and Banco Santander are announcing the 3rd edition of the Awards for the best Bachelor’s and Master’s theses presented in any academic discipline aligned with the thematic lines of the Nebrija–Santander research chairs.

2021–2022 Call Awards Resolution

The Chairs Department of Antonio de Nebrija University decided on July 28, 2022 the Nebrija–Santander Awards for Bachelor’s and Master’s Theses in the lines of the chairs, aimed at promoting knowledge by students who have stood out for their quality work in the specialized research lines carried out by the University’s chairs.

The expert juries evaluated the submissions, which totaled 31. The scope of the research was broad, with proposals from 12 Spanish universities (University of Almería, University of Alicante, Antonio de Nebrija University, Autonomous University of Barcelona, Camilo José Cela University, Villanueva University Center, University of Málaga, Polytechnic University of Cartagena, University of Oviedo, University of Salamanca, University of Valencia, and University of Zaragoza) and from 8 foreign universities (Universidade do Vale do Rio dos Sinos in São Leopoldo, Brazil; Politécnico Grancolombiano; University of Holguín in Cuba; University of Economics in Bratislava, Slovakia; National Pedagogical University Francisco Morazán in Honduras; Autonomous University of Chiapas; National Autonomous University of Mexico; University of Lima in Peru; and University of the Republic of Uruguay).

The award-winning works in each category, each with a prize of €1,250 gross, are detailed below:

  • The Nebrija–Santander Global Chair of Spanish as a Language for Migrants and Refugees awards its Prize to Teresa Hernández López for her Master’s thesis titled “Beliefs about grammar teaching among Spanish teachers for immigrants in the Community of Madrid,” defended at Antonio de Nebrija University.
  • The Nebrija–Santander Global Chair in Risk and Conflict Management awards its Bachelor’s Prize to María Isabel Renedo Cobás for her Bachelor’s thesis titled “Sex exploitation of women and girls in West Africa: a problem for the region’s security,” defended at Antonio de Nebrija University.
  • The Nebrija–Santander Global Chair in Energy Recovery in Surface Transport awards its Prize to Jose Manuel Díaz Montalvo, for his Bachelor’s thesis titled “Design and modeling of a thermoacoustic engine for a test bench,” defended at Antonio de Nebrija University.

2019/20 Call Awards Resolution

The Chairs Department of Antonio de Nebrija University decided on July 15, 2020 the 4 Nebrija–Santander Awards for Bachelor’s theses in the lines of the chairs, dedicated to promoting the recognition of students who have stood out for their strong work in the research lines conducted by the University’s chairs.

Four expert juries, composed of each chair’s director and coordinator, as well as the principal investigator of the group aligned with it, evaluated the submissions, which totaled 23. The origin of the Bachelor’s theses was very broad, with submissions from 13 Spanish universities (Universidad Alfonso X el Sabio; Antonio de Nebrija University; University of Córdoba; University of A Coruña; University of Málaga; Miguel Hernández University; Polytechnic University of Valencia; Rey Juan Carlos University; University of La Rioja; University of Seville; University of Valladolid; University of Valencia; and University of Vigo) and from 5 foreign universities (Universidad Católica San Pablo in Peru; Universidad de San Andrés in Argentina; Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile; University of Wolverhampton in Great Britain; and Universidade Federal de São Paulo in Brazil).

The award-winning works in each category, each with a prize of €1,000, are detailed below.

The Nebrija–Santander Global Chair of Spanish as a Language for Migrants and Refugees awards its Bachelor’s Prize to Mario del Campo del Prado, for his work “Educational Project in Performing Arts: working with Applied Theatre for social justice, interculturality, and collective theatrical creation,” defended at Antonio de Nebrija University. The jury highlighted this work’s direct relationship with the main objective of the chair (to contribute to improving linguistic and social care for migrants and refugees from the host society) and with projects developed within the framework of performative approaches in language teaching.

The Nebrija–Santander Global Chair in Risk and Conflict Management awards its Bachelor’s Prize to Lara Mínguez Zafrilla, for her work “The Conflict between China and Tibet: Origins, Evolution, and Consequences,” defended at Universidad Alfonso X el Sabio. The jury highlighted this work’s alignment with the chair’s lines of work (the interdisciplinary study of risks and conflicts of various kinds), its methodological rigor, and the timeliness and relevance of the topic addressed.

The Nebrija–Santander Global Chair in Business Internationalization awards its Bachelor’s Prize to Carolina Calatayud Galiana, for her work “New Destination of Global Value Chains: the East of Africa,” defended at the University of Valencia. The jury highlighted the solidity of this work, the timeliness of the topic (Africa and global value chains), and its methodological rigor. It is also a work written entirely in English.

The Nebrija–Santander Global Chair in Energy Recovery in Surface Transport awards its Bachelor’s Prize to Marco Casale Nieto, for his work “Development of methodology for dynamic tests and low-cost acquisition for motor vehicles,” defended at Antonio de Nebrija University. The jury highlighted this work’s alignment with the chair’s lines, as it proposes the development of a methodology for data acquisition and testing for automobiles; its structure and organization; and its originality, with notable coding work.

  • Prize for the best Bachelor’s thesis in Energy Recovery in Transport: €1,000.

Requirements

All Bachelor’s theses prepared and defended by students from any university, public or private, national or foreign, from January 2018 to December 2019, in Spanish or English, and that have received a minimum grade of OUTSTANDING may be submitted.
