On March 25th at 9:45 AM, the "7th Foreign Trade Conference" was held in the Auditorium of the Polytechnic and Social Sciences Campus in Madrid-Princesa. The event was organized by the Nebrija Chair in Business Internationalization and the Secretariat of State for Trade.
During this conference, the recent evolution of Spain’s foreign trade and trade policies was analyzed and discussed.
On February 25th, the event "Iberian Internationalization Observatory: Recent Evolution of Foreign Trade and FDI in Iberian Countries" was held in the Auditorium of the Polytechnic and Social Sciences Campus in Madrid-Princesa. The event was organized by the Nebrija Chair in Business Internationalization.
The aim of the event was to create a meeting space where the first Iberian Internationalization Reports 2024-25 were presented, covering the following topics:
The Nebrija Global Chair in Business Internationalization and the General Directorate of Economics of the Bank of Spain jointly organized the 6th Conference with the Bank of Spain and the Network of Researchers in Internationalization on November 25, 2024.
The event brought together researchers from the academic field and the Bank of Spain, as well as representatives and experts from various government agencies and private organizations.
On September 26th, the 2nd FDI Forum Spain 2024 was held in the auditorium of the Polytechnic and Social Sciences campus in Madrid-Princesa.
Foreign direct investment is a key variable in macroeconomic and business analysis. The 2nd FDI Forum Spain 2024, organized by SIfdi and Nebrija University, addressed, from a quantitative, regulatory, and investor perception perspective, the current state of foreign investment in Spain.
In particular, the forum focused on aspects related to the context of fragmentation in international relations, statistics on foreign direct investment from the main sources, the potential impact of the new FDI regulatory framework in Spain on these investments, as well as the geopolitical readings observed through the data.
On May 21st and 22nd, the 7th Research Conference on Internationalization was held in the Auditorium, organized by the Nebrija Global Chair in Business Internationalization and the Complutense Institute of International Studies (ICEI).
The purpose of this conference was to create a meeting space where research papers on internationalization from various universities and institutions were presented, with the goal of discussing and gaining insights into these studies. Additionally, the conference aimed to foster connections between universities, public administrations, and businesses.
The 6th Foreign Trade Conference, organized since 2018 by the Nebrija Chair in Business Internationalization and the Secretariat of State for Trade, took place on March 12, 2024, at the Princesa campus of Nebrija University.
As in previous editions, the conference featured representatives from the Secretariat of State for Trade (under the Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry), who presented to the members of the Network of Researchers in Internationalization the recent evolution of Spain's foreign trade and the trade policies in place.
The event was inaugurated by the Rector of Nebrija University, José Muñiz, the Deputy Director-General for Studies and Evaluation of Trade Policy Instruments, Bernardo Hernández, and the Chair Director, Gonzalo Solana. Furthermore, Professor Rafael Myro, Emeritus Professor at Complutense University of Madrid, presented the conclusions of the meeting, while the Secretary of State for Trade, Xiana Méndez, closed the event.
On November 21, 2023, the General Directorate of Economics and Statistics of the Bank of Spain and the Nebrija Global Chair in Business Internationalization jointly organized the 5th Conference with the Bank of Spain and the Network of Researchers in Internationalization, held at the headquarters of the Bank of Spain.
The event brought together researchers from academia, experts from the Bank of Spain, and representatives from public administrations and private organizations to analyze the impact of European funds on digitalization, economic growth, and inflation. The effects of policies for energy transition, such as the expansion of the EU emissions trading system and investment in renewable energy, were also discussed.
The conference provided an opportunity to debate the challenges and opportunities these measures present for the international economy, highlighting the importance of their analysis in a context of increasing global fragmentation.
On October 23, 2023, Nebrija University and SIFDI hosted the first edition of the Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) Forum at the Madrid-Princesa campus. The event brought together experts from academia, business, and government to analyze the evolution of foreign investment in Spain and its impact on economic growth and employment.
Key topics included the role of Europe as the main investor, the new regulatory framework for FDI in Spain, and the regulatory challenges faced by foreign companies. Additionally, the Co-investment Fund (FOCO), endowed with 2 billion euros to boost investment through public-private collaboration, was presented.
The forum established itself as a key space for analysis and discussion on the future of foreign investment in Spain.
On May 17th and 18th, 2023, 6th Research Conference on Internationalization was organized by the Nebrija Global Chair in Business Internationalization and the Complutense Institute of International Studies (ICEI) at Nebrija University's Auditorium.
During these two days, researchers from various universities and institutions presented and debated in five sessions on the evolution of internationalization and its challenges. The conference, which featured fifteen research papers, served as a meeting point between academia and decision-makers, fostering knowledge exchange and collaboration.

Among the topics discussed were the challenges of globalization, the evolution of emerging markets, and Spain's role in the current global economic landscape.
The conference established itself as a key space for reflection and debate on the future of foreign trade in an increasingly politically-driven world. Attendance was restricted exclusively to invited guests from the Chair and the Secretariat of State for Trade.
On November 17, 2022, the 4th Conference with the Bank of Spain and the Network of Researchers in Internationalization was organized by the Nebrija Global Chair in Business Internationalization and the General Directorate of Economics and Statistics of the Bank of Spain, held at the headquarters of the Bank of Spain.
The event brought together researchers from academia and the Bank of Spain, as well as representatives from various government agencies and private organizations, to analyze the impact of geopolitics on the global economy. In particular, the discussion focused on the effects of war as a supply shock, its impact on economic growth and inflation in Europe, and the consequences for economic policy and internationalization.
The heterogeneity between countries, influenced by their dependence on Russian gas and the measures adopted by their administrations, was highlighted, leading to different effects on markets and decisions made by economic agents.
The conference reaffirmed the importance of analyzing these challenges in a context of increasing uncertainty and change in international trade.
The 2nd Report on Iberian Internationalization: Spain and Portugal in the World was presented in Lisbon, at an event organized by the Santander Global Chair in Business Internationalization, in collaboration with Banco Santander Portugal and the Fundación La Caixa Portugal.
The report analyzes the positioning of Spain and Portugal in the global economy, highlighting the similarities and differences in their internationalization strategies. During the presentation, experts from both countries discussed the challenges and opportunities in key sectors, as well as the impact of the current economic and geopolitical situation on their trade relations.
The event featured participants from the academic, business, and institutional sectors, establishing itself as a key space for the analysis of internationalization in the Iberian Peninsula.
On May 18th and 19th, 2022, the 5th Research Conference on Internationalization: Global Analysis in a Context of Uncertainty was organized by the Nebrija Santander Global Chair in Business Internationalization and the Complutense Institute of International Studies (ICEI), held at the Madrid-Princesa campus of Nebrija University.
The event brought together experts from academia and business around four major thematic areas: post-pandemic globalization and geopolitics, business internationalization, trade policy and external balance, and the effects of external openness. Over the course of five sessions, studies were presented on the impact of the invasion of Ukraine on the global economy, the evolution of digital value chains, the accelerated internationalization of companies, and the effects of economic openness on growth.
The closing lecture, delivered by Alicia García-Herrero (Bruegel, Natixis), analyzed the main risks to the global economy, such as the crisis in Ukraine and China's COVID-19 policy. Finally, Rafael Myro (Complutense University of Madrid) presented the conclusions of the conference.
The conference reaffirmed the importance of internationalization as a driver of growth and provided an enriching debate on the economic challenges in a context of global transformation.
