Internship pathways in both degrees starting in the second year

From the second year onward, students put their theoretical knowledge into practice at internship centers where they are actively integrated. Through a combined pathway, they receive training across all areas of physiotherapy and physical activity and sport sciences, covering both clinical and athletic specializations.

The double degree is delivered at the Life Sciences Campus in La Berzosa, an environment of academic excellence that features laboratories equipped with the latest technology, specialized practice rooms, and newly inaugurated sports facilities. These resources enable students to acquire the skills and abilities essential for successful employment, with a professional profile fully integrated across both disciplines.

Innovative methodologies

The program is based on innovative methodologies such as project-based assessment, which promotes task-based learning. This approach allows students to develop autonomy and manage their time effectively, while fostering key skills such as teamwork and the practical application of knowledge. In doing so, it ensures dynamic, hands-on training that is fully aligned with the demands of today’s job market.

Clinical Internship Rotations: These are in-person, pre-professional clinical training activities carried out in hospitals and other physiotherapy services under the supervision of qualified professionals. The objectives are to put physiotherapy procedures into practice (assessments, methods, techniques, etc.) with real patients, with the aim of developing professional attitudes regarding interpersonal relationships, ethical principles, and a commitment to quality. Students also integrate and become familiar with other professionals and hospital activities, both as part of the patient care team and, for example, by attending clinical sessions. In each rotation and at each center, students are assigned a physiotherapist from the host institution who acts as their tutor, in collaboration with the course instructor and the Internship Coordinator. This tutor supervises the student’s performance, provides appropriate guidance and feedback, and participates in their assessment. This activity accounts for at least 70% of the total workload of the course.

Immersion in the Professional Sports Sector: Through internships in companies within the sports industry, students gain direct exposure to the professional reality of the different fields or specialization tracks of this dual degree: physical education teaching, sports training, physical activity and quality of life, sports management, or professional sport and recreation settings. Students select their preferred area of professional development and, under the supervision of an internship tutor, carry out tasks related to their chosen track or field in leading companies or organizations in the sector.

Tutoring sessions: Personalized student support through the resolution of questions and issues related to the course content.

Individual Study and Independent Work: Students complete study activities, review bibliographies, and use other learning resources to prepare for internships and clinical case work. They also work individually or in groups to prepare dossiers, field notebooks, reflective journals, or internship portfolios, as well as other assignments, readings, and seminars.

Company Internship: This program is designed to enhance students’ practical training, under the continuous supervision of the University’s Professional Careers Department, the academic department responsible for the degree program, and the collaborating company or institution where the internship takes place. Students receive guidance in choosing their internship, and their progress is monitored and supported throughout, always tailored to each student’s professional goals.
